To read is to be free
Make sure your child is on the path to literacy.

Reading is a skill that sets up a child for life. When a child falls behind in literacy skills, they’re three times less likely to graduate high school, get a job, vote, or read the news.
But reading is not locked behind time and money. The Path to Literacy provides:
- Free digital children’s books
- Free read-aloud of children’s books
- Parent & Child activities to promote literacy

When a child reads for fun, it outweighs any potentially negative factors like low socio-economic status. They also process the material, retain content, and keep the skills that were used to read challenging books. Reading for an assignment means less engagement.
If a child chooses their own book, they will read for longer and allows belonging and engagement in the book.
When a child is engaged with the book, it means they retain unfamiliar sentence structures, bigger vocabulary, and deepen their background knowledge.

A parent has much more power over their child’s literacy than they realize. By reading to or with your child at least 3x a week, the child is 2-3x more likely to read on grade level.
Promoting reading at home is key to guiding children down the path to success.
